1. Purpose
This policy defines who may use EIPIO designatory letters, the correct forms, and the conditions for continuing use.

2. Scope
Applies to all EIPIO Members, Fellows, applicants, and former members, and to any person or organisation referencing EIPIO designations.

3. Definitions

  • Designatory letters: MEIPIO (Member), FEIPIO (Fellow).

  • Good standing: membership fees current; Code of Ethics and CPD requirements met; no outstanding disciplinary matters.

4. Eligibility & Grant of Right

  • MEIPIO is granted upon admission as a Member.

  • FEIPIO is granted upon election to Fellowship under criteria approved by the Board (seniority of 15 years or more of demonstrable relevant professional experience, contribution to the profession, and/or peer standing).

  • The right to use the letters is personal, non-transferable, and conditional on good standing.

5. Conditions of Use

  • Exact forms: “MEIPIO” and “FEIPIO” only; no translations or punctuation variants.

  • Placement: after the name (e.g., A. Smith, MEIPIO).

  • Credential order: honours → degrees → EIPIO letters → licenses/certifications.

  • Contexts permitted: CVs/resumes, LinkedIn and professional profiles, email signatures, business cards, conference materials, publications, and websites.

  • Contexts prohibited: any use implying government regulation, licensure, or statutory authority; commercial product endorsement without prior written approval.

6. CPD (if applicable)
If the Board sets CPD for a membership grade, use of the letters requires meeting the published CPD minimums. Non-compliance places a member out of good standing until remedied.

7. Digital Assets

  • EIPIO provides verifiable digital badges and certificates. Members may display these unaltered with an active verification link.

  • Screenshotting or modifying badges is prohibited.

8. Verification
EIPIO maintains a public online register of current Members and Fellows. This register is the sole authoritative record for right of use.

9. Lapse, Suspension, Revocation

  • Lapse (non-payment or resignation): immediate cessation of use.

  • Suspension/Revocation (disciplinary): immediate removal from public profiles and materials.

  • Retired status: “MEIPIO (Ret.)” or “FEIPIO (Ret.)” permitted where granted.

10. Misuse & Enforcement
Misuse includes use by non-members, use while not in good standing, alteration of letters, or misleading claims of authority. EIPIO may: (a) issue take-down/cease-and-desist notices; (b) suspend or revoke membership; (c) notify employers or platforms; and (d) pursue legal remedies where marks are infringed.

11. Trademarks & Brand
“EIPIO”, “MEIPIO”, “FEIPIO”, the EIPIO crest and related devices are trade marks or common-law marks of EIPIO. Use is subject to this policy and the Brand Guidelines.

12. Governance
The Board approves and may amend this policy. Changes take effect on publication to members.
